Improved Anesthesia
At our practice, procedures are performed with the patient under "Total IV Anesthesia" (TIVA). This form of sedation and pain control is further customized for our patients through our use of tumescent fluid. This "preemptive" anesthesia reduces pain both during and after the procedure by blocking pain signals before surgery starts.
This approach is superior to other anesthesia approaches in many ways. It offers a potential reduction in blood clots in the legs, decreased incidence of post-operative nausea and vomiting, and smoother recovery. It usually avoids the necessity to paralyze a patient and, rather than placing a tube down the trachea (which can be irritating), patients are able to breathe on their own. After TIVA, patients find that they don't have the lingering "hangover" encountered with other forms of anesthesia. In short, with our method of anesthesia, our patients return to their normal activities more quickly and comfortably.
Another way that our practice is special: we hired a trained anesthesia professional to administer IV medication. Other practices may not have such a professional on staff, but we absolutely believe that this role is vitally important for the safety and comfort of our patients.
Exceptional Patient Care
Drs. Mirzai and Phan want your surgery to be a success. They will do whatever they can to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the process. In many cases, this means picking you up at the airport, taking you to the grocery store, and setting you up in one of our private recovery cottages with a friend or family member to stay with you. We can also arrange to have a "medical sitter" available to assist you with your medications, showering, and your other post-operative needs. Our surgeons even make house calls.
Although this may seem like a luxury reserved for high-profile celebrity practices, our quaint, unpretentious bungalows feel more like home and provide the perfect way to recover from your procedure surrounded by the beauty of Hawaii. Many of our plastic surgery patients say that the fact that they were able to recover away from their daily responsibilities was very helpful in accomplishing their surgical goals. And, if you stay in our cottages, you can take advantage of our full-service spa by indulging in a deep tissue massage, facial or body wrap.
