Liposuction in Hawaii
Most people have heard about liposuction in Hawaii, but, with all the body contouring options available, a more thorough understanding may be helpful. Liposuction is an excellent option for people who have pockets of diet- and exercise-resistant fat. It is a versatile procedure that can be used in a variety of areas and may require less downtime than other methods of body contouring. Dr. Todd Mirzai and Dr. Bao Phan are board-certified plastic surgeons who can help you determine which method of body contouring is right for you.

Reasons for Considering Liposuction
Liposuction in Hawaii is used to eliminate unsightly pockets of fat. It isn't just for the abdominal area; it can be used on the thighs, hips, back, buttocks, upper arms, chest and even the face or neck. It is also often used in the course of other procedures such as a breast lift or abdominoplasty in Honolulu. Liposuction has several benefits:
· It is often performed under local anesthesia and IV sedation instead of general anesthesia.
· Incisions tend to be small and placed in inconspicuous locations.
· Liposuction usually provides patients with a shorter and more comfortable recovery period.
General Procedure
There are several different ways that Hawaii plastic surgeons perform liposuction. Although there have been many new developments, the traditional method of tumescent liposuction is often the best option. With the tumescent technique, small incisions are made and the treatment area is infused with tumescent fluid (a combination of saline, adrenaline, and local anesthetic). Fat is suctioned and removed through a small tube called a cannula.
Another method, PAL (power assisted liposuction), combines tumescent liposuction with a cannula that vibrates to break up fat cells. Drs. Mirzai and Phan offer this method because it can provide quicker surgery time, shorter recovery, and may cause fewer complications.
Recovery Process
Our practice strives to make your recovery as pleasant as possible. During the initial recovery period, patients flying in from other islands often choose to stay in our private bungalows, located right across the street from the Maui surgery center. Our surgeons even make "house calls" to check-in on your progress.
Most patients will experience some swelling or discomfort after their liposuction in Honolulu or at one of our other offices. These aftereffects subside relatively quickly, and patients will then be able to return to work and their normal routine. Results are visible immediately after swelling has subsided and, if diet and exercise are maintained, will be permanent (as fat cells removed through liposuction will never return).
